In downtown Fullerton, CA, on the site of a former citrus-packing house, Malden Station is the latest success story in the city’s wave of revitalization.

The design was inspired by other buildings in the area, particularly a single-story urban art studio across the street. “We picked up on that vibe”, says AO Partner Ed Cadavona. “Malden Station evokes the evolution of the city in three phases: the red brick of its industrial past, siding for its trendy present and acrylic paneling for its lively future”.

The building includes 200 apartments and 5,100 sf. of retail space. “The project really makes a statement” Cadavona says. “It has a nice front face, and train riders can enjoy murals on the back of the building that reference Fullerton’s agricultural past.”

Malden Station was honored at the 2017 BALA Awards as the Multifamily Community of the Year and also earned the Platinum Award as the Best Mixed-Use Community.

The BALA judges concurred, praising Malden Station’s nice street presence, including “elements that look like they’re a lot of fun. Bold colors and murals on the wall give it a send of character. [It will have] a great impact on the community.”
