AO Multifamily Studio .:. Garden Brook Senior Village Broke Ground!

As of Tuesday, February 12, the adaptive regeneration of Garden Grove’s famous half-built-then-abandoned structure, the “Rusty Skeleton,” has officially begun. AO’s RC Alley, Partner, and Thomas Johnson, Senior PM, attended the groundbreaking ceremony. Transforming a decaying and unsightly 90-foot steel frame, vacant for 10 years, into the luxurious and contemporary Garden Brook Senior Village apartments is no small feat, but with the careful planning of our team from the boards to the grand opening, this structure will take on new life and create a fresh new gateway into the city.

In the heart of Garden Grove’s vibrant Korean District, this new adaptive reuse project introduces 395 below-market senior apartments, along with 13,000sf of commercial retail space and over 35,000sf of community and recreational area, as well as expands the retail core from the city’s largest mixed-use development across the street. The project also includes an intergenerational partnership with the neighboring Boys and Girls Club where programs will foster mutually-benefitting youth and senior interactions, befitting a place that is reborn in order to reinvigorate a community.

Developers are AMG & Associates and Pacific west communities, Inc. We are very excited to see this two-time award-winning project reach completion in 2021.
