Architects Orange Earns Coveted Gold Nugget Honors

Orange, California, May 31, 2018 – Judges for the 2018 Gold Nugget Awards have named Architects Orange as an Award of Merit Winner in its annual competition, which honors architectural design and planning excellence and draws entries from throughout the United States and internationally. Architects Orange earned its Merit honors for Metro East Senior Park, which was honored for Best Senior Community on the Boards.

Located in Santa Ana, California, Metro East Senior Park:

Studies show that social, mental and physical engagement promotes longevity and wellbeing. This 419-unit senior affordable project conceives a place where residents can engage fully with the community and one another.

The oblong and narrow six-story building abutting the freeway possesses a small frontage along First Street and an opportunity to create a welcoming gateway to the City. To do this, a pedestrian pathway and alcove in the building facade carve out a public plaza, programmable with community and commercial events. The leasing lounge and a small retail space sit behind storefront windows, exuding a pedestrian-scaled, commercial street presence. On the building’s eastern façade, a large-scale work of public art boldly welcomes visitors entering from the east.

The building’s contemporary architecture, rather than muted and diminutive, steps confidently into the future, with carefully considered proportions on its landmark six-story frame, and a crisp color palette of warm grays, tans and whites. This progressive design represents next level engagement in Santa Ana’s hip and artsy Metro East Mixed Use zone.

Once inside the building, residents are encouraged to mingle via five distinctly themed courtyards full of active and passive activities. A fitness center and recreational lounge areas promote healthy lifestyles. A rooftop sky lounge at the seventh level offers panoramic views, which reach to the ocean.  A wide variety of unit plans feature shallow and wide floor plans, which feel open and bright. The building design is an invitation to embrace an exciting new phase of life, fully engaged in the community and influencing the future.
